BONUS: New Year's Evil (1980)
Happy New Years Guys! Just wanted to say THANK YOU to all my internet friends out there. To anyone and everyone who has supported this little film blog or taken the time to send an email of encouragement, it means the world to me. You’re the best! So don’t change. Look forward to much more from I Love Hot Dogs in 2010! Even working on some videos and other fun stuff (!!!) Are you...

I Love Hot Dogs' Best of 100 Films
WOW. One. hundred. films. And in the words of Karen Carpenter “We’ve only just begun”. We laughed, we cried, we got high! Good-times. Here in no particular order are my top ten favorite posts out of a hundred films. I even threw in a few extras (I couldn’t help it, I was having fun!) and some new stills. So warm up a Hot Pocket®, slip into your Snuggie® and enjoy! I hope...

Et Dieu... créa la femme (1956): Girl can't help...
Brigitte Bardot was a beautiful woman. She had that kind of sex appeal that leaves men slack jawed, fumbling for their checkbooks, politely opening doors or pulling out chairs and leasing expensive sports cars. With the bat of an eyelash or the swing of her hips she could take you down; And she knew it! But I’m not telling you anything that you don’t already know.
The film Et Dieu… créa la...

Rocky (1976): Don't Call It a Comeback.
I have to admit that I’m a little biased in my feelings for the film Rocky considering my background. I was born and raised in South Philadelphia, a mere ten minute walk from dueling cheese steak giants Pat’s and Geno’s and the Italian market which Rocky triumphantly jogs through. My favorite pizza place (Lorenzo’s on 9th and Christian St. if you’re interested),...

Classics: A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
Every time I watch this film I have to resist the urge to sit on the floor Indian style with my face in my hands. It totally turns me into a little kid again; And somehow after forty years, and a million replays, the simple story and perfectly jazzy soundtrack by the the Vince Guaraldi Trio make it a holiday classic that never feels dated.
Our favorite Debbie Downer Charlie Brown is suffering...

Pretty Baby (1978): Are you gonna be my girl?
It’s hard not to watch Pretty Baby and not become kind of obsessed with Brooke Shields. Her striking beauty at only twelve years old is the stuff of legends, and somehow doesn’t seem exploited in this film about prostitution in the early 1900s.
Shields is Violet, a precocious girl born and raised in a high class brothel in the Storyville section of New Orleans. Her mother Hattie,...

Classics: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes...
I’m not even going to attempt a Star Wars write-up. That is too nerdy EVEN for me! But after recently re-watching this film I am still in awe of this gloriously spacey logo.

BONUS: I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957)
I think the studio was being a little overly confident when they called this “The most amazing motion picture of our time!” But I could be wrong.

Classics: Night of the Living Dead (1968)
I am a big fan of the less is more approach when it comes to horror films*; And I’m always appreciative of one that can capture the “shit hitting the fan out of nowhere” scenario without overdoing it. My favorite scenes in these kind of films is the inevitable moment when a delirious person screams in a shrill voice “Why is this happening?!” and a more rational person grabs them by the...

The Best of Everything (1959): I want to know what...
There are films that make you reflect fondly on the past and then there are those that make you kind of disgusted. For me, The Best of Everything is the latter. I am by no means a feminist but parts of this film pushed me to my limits. TBOE is a soap opera about a group of women living in New York City and working at a publishing company on Park Avenue. Though they try to distinguish each woman...

Foxes (1980): The Edge of Seventeen.
Other than the fact that it stars Jodi Foster, Scott Baio, Cherie Currie, and RANDY QUAID, the most notable thing about Foxes is that it’s the directorial debut of Adrian Lyne. He went on to direct Flashdance (!!!), 9½ Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Jacob’s Ladder, and Unfaithful. I like the use of natural light in some scenes and the overall hazy quality of the film.

Beautiful composition and color.
For Geez.

King of New York (1990): Everybody wants to rule...
It’s always interesting revisiting a movie that you haven’t seen in sixteen years (!!!) Of course I knew King of New York was going to dated but it was definitely a bit cheesier than I remember (I’m looking at you Larry Fishburne). Another thing that struck me was how weird it was seeing David Caruso without sunglasses or mumbling a one liner. Well unless you count “Hey,...

BONUS: Cindy and Donna (1970)
Yellow is one of my favorite colors, and the curly font is pretty lovely too!
