Psycho (1960): Dear Mama.
Let’s be honest. I don’t really need to tell you that Psycho is an incredible film, but I’m gonna. From the schizophrenic opening titles by Saul Bass, to the screechy violin score by Bernard Herrmann, to the final devilish grin we get from a disturbed Norman Bates, it’s flawless. I saw it at the Film Forum last week and it stands up! Overall the movie was more subtle than...

Interviews: Romain Gavras for HUSK
Just received a copy of the Fall/Winter issue of HUSK magazine today and it looks amazing! It features inspired photo shoots as well as interviews with Maison Martin Margiela, Terence Koh, Thomas Persson (the genius behind Acne Paper), and an interview with French director Romain Gavras courtesy of yours truly (!!!). Psyched to be a part of this project and to get a chance to chat with Romain...

Lucifer Rising (1972): Eye in the Sky.
Factoid: To create the soundtrack for Lucifer Rising director Kenneth Anger hired a young musician named Bobby Beausoleil. Coincidentally Beausoleil was later convicted of killing a man under the orders of Charles Manson. It is speculated that he wrote and recorded the music for the film while in prison. Just adds another layer of strangeness to this unusual film. ...

Books: NY Art Book Fair
Today is the last day of the NY Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1. I got the most random things there yesterday, but that’s what book fairs are all about right?! Tons of cool books, posters, art and zines to explore. It’s kind of overwhelming but don’t miss it! Today from 11-5.

Books: Taxi Driver by Taschen
This one breaks my heart. Walking by the Taschen store on Greene street I saw this beauty shining in the window. I was awestruck. I think my eyes were the size of saucers when I walked in like a dazed and drooling zombie and asked to see a copy. I knew I just had to flip through the pages and man, was she pretty. The new book features over 200 of Steve Schapiro’s never-before-scene photos...

Staying Alive (1983): The Politics of Dancing.
Let’s file this under movies you don’t need to see or add to your Netflix queue anytime soon. I had high hopes for this one as I can admit without shame or irony that I have a soft spot for the “dance movie”. Yes, they are silly, campy, plotless long form music videos but cheesy choreography, dramatic costumes and stories of people fighting tooth and nail to become stars...

Shorts: I LOVE USA by Hedi Slimane (2010)
I LOVE USA is the latest short film from iconic menswear designer and photographer Hedi Slimane. The film features Sidney, a perfect vision of the All-American California girl and her companion: a cello playing boy-wolf. Their courtship is an innocent one full of making music and enjoying tranquil moments on the beach in Venice, California. Slimane’s aesthetic is an almost graphic contrast...
