And it’s happened. I’ve been bitten by the vampire bug. It’s kinda like the swine flu with less deaths more press; it started with that guy Robert Pattinson and mutated into something deadly somewhere along Anna Paquin’s boobies. Unfortunately, it shows no signs of slowing with Twilight fever spreading through teenage girls and middle aged moms at an alarming rate. I was trying to avoid the whole thing, but it’s evil and ubiquitous. I’m just gonna say it: Vampires are so HOT right now.
The Hunger is a different kind of vampire movie. Yes, it’s mostly style with little story but the visuals are sooo easy on the eyes. It reminded me of a lot of eighties music video treatments: all blue lighting, blowing curtains, and sexxxy goth babes. Nothing wrong with that right? Critics, including Roger Ebert hated it but I thought it was pretty good. Plot holes excluded it still has a stop motion monkey death, David Bowie in old man makeup, Bauhaus, many fabulous hats, blood, and a lady-time sex scene between Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve. DAY-UM. And Did I mention it’s about vampires?!

The director Tony Scott went on to direct Top Gun, Days of Thunder, True Romance, Crimson Tide, Beverly Hill Cop II (oh geez), and many other films. He is also the brother of Ridley Scott who directed Alien, Blade Runner and Thelma and Louise (!!!)
