How happy was I when I found out about a sub-genre of exploitation cinema called NUNSPLOITATION films?! Really happy. Some would say ecstatic! The premise is great: nuns behaving badly and getting into all sorts of shenanigans like murder, lesbianism, using the nun thing as a cover because they’re hiding from the mob and genuinely enjoy singing fun little diddies and basically doing just about anything to go against the values of the Catholic church. Sounds pretty good to me. (Adds five films to the top of Netlfix queue.)
Sadly my first venture into Nunsploitation was a film called Killer Nun. It has all the elements of something entertaining: a heroin addicted nun, murders, lesbians, funny old people, strange music, but it just TOTALLY BLOWS IT. To say I was bummed is an understatement. You probably already know that I have a high tolerance for bad movies but this was painful. The worst part is that I really don’t wanna give up on this genre but cannot sit through another truly shitty film. Guess I’ll just move onto Hixploitation.
