Hi, my name is Shannon, and I’m a bookaholic (Small crowd chomping on free donuts: “Hi Shannon!”). Perhaps there are worse vices to have, but soon you may see me on Strand’s version of Skid row peddling my ass for that Taschen Taxi Driver book or passes to the Tribeca Film Festival. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that?! I bought Bébé: The Films of Brigitte Bardot solely for the cover, something we’ve been told for centuries not to do. I flipped through it for a few minutes but it was the cover with it’s cut out of a coquettish Bardot with eyes staring right through me and the use of hot pink and orange that sold me. Damn, she’s such a little minx.
The book reads like an IMDB profile with tons more photos, insight and a slight breeze of creepiness. It begins with an image of Bardot as an infant (captioned “The baby Bébé”) and continues through her beginnings as a model, her colorful love life, and her filmography through the mid seventies. If you’re a fan or Bardot and you happen upon it for a few bucks it’s worth it. Oh wait, I don’t want to enable you too. Addiction is a powerful thing.
“I am really a cat transformed into a woman… I purr. I scratch. And sometimes I bite.”
- Brigitte Bardot
