I usually hate it when people (And TBS) try to get me to watch romantic comedies. I’m just not that kind of girl. “This one is different! I swear!” they all say and attempt to layout a convincing list of bullshit reasons I should suffer through another one of these films. I insist on my no rom-com (and Titanic) policy and they usually give up after a few eye rolls and passive aggressive comments. But, then a few are persistent; And I am here to admit that one has proven me wrong. Damn.
My friend Kate kept telling me about Two for the Road to which I replied “Rom-com? Not. Interested.” but she insisted and I folded. (Hey! It’s a new year!) Well, this road- trip-rom-com film IS different. First of all, it stars Audrey Hepburn. A woman who trumps Sad-Jen, Sandra Bullock* (groan), JLo, and even SJP without even trying. She’s painfully beautiful (in a natural way), sarcastic and more importantly intelligent and strong willed. The opposite of most characters that I loathe in this genre. The film follows her relationship with Mark: the ups and downs of their past, present and possible future. It’s charming, stylish and pretty realistic. Alright, so I really liked it! Did I mention that Mr. Feeny is in it?! I’m still steering clear of all the new rom-coms; But maybe I should a few oldies to my queue.

*As the end credits for The Proposal rolled, I definitely died a little inside.
