I have recently converted to The Church of Netflix of Latter-day Rentals. As if the “no late fees” weren’t enough to convince me to join this zealous movement, the Watch Instantly sect continues to grow, as the Gods of online viewing grace us with more and more treasures of cinema and TV and less reasons to leave your couch on a Sunday afternoon. And though Netflix is a glorious place it can also be a gaping black hole, much like hell itself. I’m going to nominate some films for you to add to your queue or drop everything you’re not doing and watch this instant. First up: Showgirls, directed by Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct). If you have not seen (and loved) this movie by now then what the hell are you waiting for? 2012? It’s a masterpiece of camp, costumes, dancing, Kyle MacLachlan and tittays. Elizabeth Berkley gives it her all and proves she’s nothing close to the huge prude that Jessie Spano was. The trailer says it’s “The hottest film of the year, OR ANY YEAR” Touché?!
