I think it’s safe to say that here in New York, surfers are the new skaters. With growing numbers of amateurs pouring their pale bodies into wetsuits every weekend, designer neoprene bikinis and a successful surf outpost in Soho, it’s a bona fide trend. For us girls I imagine it’s far less embarrassing to ask a dude to teach you how to surf than to attempt a sloppy kickflip while wearing those Jeffrey Campbell platforms. Or to try to causally mention which skater’s style you admire (Hi Figgy!). But I digress. Allow me to introduce you to one of the cheeriest lil’ surf films you’ll ever meet. The Endless Summer is about exactly what the title implies: two surfers chasing sunny weather and the perfect wave around the world. Sounds pretty dreamy right?
The two California natives travel through Africa, Tahiti, Australia, and Hawaii with some shores being more fruitful than others but making the best of the adventure along the way. It’s part National Geographic doc, road diary and part silly home movie with director Bruce Brown’s cheeky narration really taking it to the next level of charming. He reminded me a little of Fred Willard in Best in Show. And the surfers featured are so ridiculously good at what they do, they make it look so effortless and Brown’s cinematography makes it beautiful. With summer just around the corner this film is the perfect way to get excited for better weather and fun in the sun. Damn, I wish I was drinking a margarita right about now.

“Wake up
It’s a beautiful morning
Honey, while the sun is still shining
Wake up
Would you like to go with me?
Honey, take a run down to the beach.”
