While some fear or shy away from death, Harold Chasen embraces it. He lives a quiet life and has one very peculiar hobby: staging elaborate faux-suicides to agitate his overbearing mother. But after a handful of these she grows immune to the sight of Harold covered in fake blood and just begins sending him to specialists, none of which can explain his love of the macabre. Everything changes for Harold when he meets Maude, a saucy woman in her seventies who shares his love of crashing stranger’s funerals and sees everything as an opportunity for adventure. Did I mention she’s really good at stealing cars? The two form a friendship that leads to an unconventional romance and an awakening for Harold. With all the time he’s been spending thinking about death, he’s finally found a reason to live.
