If you’ve seen even one thirty second clip of Toddlers and Tiaras then you know that precocious children can be a truly frightening thing. But Sean Farrell is not your average precocious four (“and a half!”) year old. He’s an insightful little sponge, and a true product of the freewheeling 60s and his upbringing in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. We never formally meet his hippy parents but from his conversations with director Ralph Arlyck we see that he supports their views on the police (“They’re icky. Whenever I see them I throw up!”), his reasons for not wearing shoes (“They’re sweaty and creepy”), marijuana (“I eat it and smoke it”) and God among other things. The interview is peppered with gorgeous b-roll shots of Sean’s daily activities: skateboarding around his neighborhood, building a boat with his family, and encounters with friends and locals. It all equals the perfect fourteen minute short and an introduction to a character more interesting than many adults. Check it out here.
“The whole world is the Indian’s world, ‘cause they were here first.” - Sean Farrell
