Shotgun Stories is a tale of family revenge set upon a depressing landscape in the South. Son, Boy, and Kid Hayes are three brothers that share a bond: an indifferent drunk father who abandoned them to start a new life with another family. Years later when the brothers attend their father’s funeral, they meet the parallel family who he chose over them. Grief, anger and pride take over and a family feud beings between the families. All hell (kind of) breaks loose.
You should see this movie. Not for the blood lust the title implies but for the realistic portrayal of an American family and everyday life in a small town. The visuals, subtle dialogue and supporting characters are genuine as well. This movie is all about how far you would go to protect one of your own. It also features a snippet from one of my favorite cheese ballads: “If I could fly” by Benny Mardones. Download that too while you’re at it.*

* Whenever someone asks me “Who’s a famous person you would like to meet?” one of the first people that comes to mind is Roger Ebert. I know some people don’t see him as a celebrity but I have been watching him and reading his reviews religiously since I was a kid. In honor of him and my love of movies, I am going to review movies here. Deal with it.
