Jean-Luc Godard’s movies make me want to move to Paris. Breathless left me contemplating getting a pixie cut, selling New York Herald Tribunes and a life of leisure with a petty thief. Weekend bugged me but I still found myself jealous of the characters being on their way to the French countryside, even if they are stuck in traffic the whole movie. And Bande a part (Band of Outsiders) made me want bangs, to learn french and to be a girl caught in the middle of two arrogant (but kind of charming) small time criminals who want to rob my family.
What isn’t beautiful about this movie? Anna Karina is adorably gullible and wide eyed. The dance sequence at the cafe is magical. The minute of silence, genius. If only real life involved choreographed dances, running through the Louvre, and accidentally killing your aunt during a hold up. Wait, scratch that last part. Just give me Paris! FIN.
