I have a confession to make. I have never had a driver’s license. Maybe it was growing up in a small city with lots of public transportation and then transplanting to a bigger city with even more public transportation, but I never really wanted one. Looking for parking has always given me anxiety, so taking the subway or riding my Mongoose through the streets of Philly were fine with me. There was a moment though when this could have all changed: the night I first watched License to Drive. This teenage comedy of errors starring the Coreys and a then unknown Heather Graham made driving look so fun and features one of Billy Ocean’s biggest jams. For a second I felt enchanted by the idea of being their sidekick: the fun girl that wears very little makeup, who one day in some perfect lighting and after some life threatening shenanigans Corey Haim would see as a total babe. I’m totally being romanced by eighties movie logic right now but I’m ok with that. These promo photos make me wanna watch this movie right now, on repeat. Call me a late adopter, but I’m still on the fence about this whole driving a car thing. Billy Ocean, you still got that passenger side free?
